Crowdfunding

Digitalab 13 J.
Many people jointly finance a project – in return for a reward (Kickstarter), a return (crowdinvesting) or social impact (donation).

In crowdfunding (Schwarmfinanzierung, "swarm financing"), a project raises money from many supporters – usually via an online platform.

Four types:

• Reward-based: you get a product or reward (Kickstarter, Startnext)
• Crowdinvesting: you invest and get a return/interest (Bergfürst, Companisto)
• Crowdlending: you lend money and get it back with interest (Auxmoney)
• Donation-based: you donate without anything in return (GoFundMe, betterplace)

Risk: crowdinvesting in particular is risky – total loss is possible. Never invest more than you can afford to lose.

Did you know? The German crowdfunding market has a volume of more than €500 million a year. In 2023/2024, however, several large property projects failed.
