Money in other countries

Kinderab 5 J.
Why do other countries have different money? What are dollars, yen and pounds? How do you convert? An exciting money journey around the world for curious kids.

A financial trip around the world for children:

Why are there different currencies? Every country (or group of countries like the EU) has its own currency because it has its own economy and government.

Exciting currencies:

• 🇺🇸 USA: dollar ($) – the most important currency in the world
• 🇯🇵 Japan: yen (¥) – 1 euro = approx. 160 yen (lots of zeros!)
• 🇬🇧 UK: pound (£) – one of the oldest currencies
• 🇨🇭 Switzerland: franc (CHF) – considered particularly safe

Exercise: on your next holiday, convert the prices: "How much does the ice cream cost in euros?"

Did you know? There are about 180 official currencies worldwide. The oldest currency still in use is the British pound – it has existed for more than 1,200 years.
