Money and time

Planungab 5 J.
Time is the most valuable currency. You can earn money, but not time. Financial freedom doesn't mean “having lots of money” but “deciding for yourself how you use your time”.

The deepest insight about money: money is just a tool for buying TIME.

What money really buys:

• Freedom: not HAVING to work, but WANTING to work
• Options: being able to quit without fear. Being able to say no
• Time: not having to commute. Not having to work overtime. Time for family
• Security: not having to worry about the next bill

The time-value calculation:

Before you buy something, convert it: "How many hours do I have to work for this?"

• Net hourly wage: €2,500 net ÷ 160 hours = €15.60/hour
• New smartphone (€800): 51 hours of work = 6.4 working days
• New TV (€1,200): 77 hours = almost 10 working days
• Holiday (€3,000): 192 hours = 24 working days = almost 5 weeks

The question isn't "Can I afford it?" The question is: "Is it worth X hours of my life to me?"

Did you know? Morgan Housel writes in “The Psychology of Money” that the highest value money offers is control over your time. Not the biggest house or the nicest car – but the freedom to decide how you spend your day.
