Annual general meeting

Börseab 13 J.
The annual meeting of all shareholders of a company. Votes are held on the dividend, the board and important decisions. Even as a small investor you can take part.

The annual general meeting (Hauptversammlung, AGM) is the highest decision-making body of a public limited company. Every shareholder – whether with 1 share or 1 million – may attend and vote.

What is decided?

• Dividend: how much of the profit is distributed?
• Management board: discharge or dismissal
• Auditor: who checks the books?
• Special measures: capital increases, takeovers, changes to the articles of association

Voting rights: one vote per share. Large shareholders have more influence. But even as a small investor with 10 shares you can come, ask questions and vote – including a free buffet!

Did you know? Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting is called the “Woodstock for Capitalists” – more than 40,000 shareholders travel to Omaha every year to listen to Warren Buffett.
