Contactless payment

Digitalab 5 J.
Paying via NFC: hold your card or phone to the terminal – done. Up to €50 without a PIN, above that with a PIN. Just as secure as normal card payments.

Contactless payment uses NFC technology (Near Field Communication). You briefly hold your bank card or smartphone to the terminal – the payment takes less than 1 second.

Security:

✅ Up to €50 without a PIN (max. 5 transactions in a row, then a PIN is requested)
✅ Data is transmitted in encrypted form
✅ The card must be within max. 4 cm of the terminal – accidental payment is practically impossible
✅ Just as secure as a chip payment with PIN

Prevalence (2026): over 85% of all card payments in Germany are now contactless. Especially popular with younger shoppers.

Did you know? The COVID pandemic massively accelerated contactless payments in Germany: in 2019 only 35% of card payments were contactless, in 2024 more than 85%.
