Multi-account model

Sparenab 9 J.
Different accounts for different purposes: current account (everyday), instant-access savings (emergency fund), savings account (goals), securities account (building wealth). Makes budgeting automatic.

The multi-account model uses separate accounts for different pots of money – so you can see immediately how much you have for what.

The 4-account system:

Account 1 – current account (everyday):

• Salary comes in, fixed costs go out
• Whatever's left = freely available

Account 2 – instant-access savings (emergency fund):

• 3–6 months' salary for emergencies
• Don't touch it except in a real emergency!

Account 3 – savings account (savings goals):

• For medium-term goals: holiday, car, wedding
• Top it up automatically by standing order

Account 4 – securities account (building wealth):

• ETF savings plan for long-term wealth building
• Money you won't need for 10+ years

How it works: on the 1st of the month (after your salary arrives), standing orders automatically send the amounts to the respective accounts. Whatever stays in your current account, you can spend – without a guilty conscience.

Did you know? The multi-account model puts the “mental accounting” effect to positive use: instead of unconsciously keeping different money pots in your head, you make them real and manageable.
