Sustainable banks
What sustainable banks do differently:
Conventional banks invest your money in anything that brings a return – including arms, fossil fuels and child labour. Sustainable banks exclude such investments and instead support renewable energy, social projects and organic farming.
The most important sustainable banks in Germany:
• GLS Bank: Germany's oldest eco-social bank (since 1974). Current account from €3.80/month
• EthikBank: strict ethical criteria. Current account free with incoming payments
• Triodos Bank: Dutch sustainability bank with a German branch
• Tomorrow: neobank with a sustainability focus. App-based, modern design
Is switching worth it? Financially, the difference is small (€0–5/month more). Ethically, the difference is enormous: your money doesn't finance weapons or fracking, but wind farms and schools.
