Withholding tax

SteuernErwachsene
Tax withheld abroad on dividends. US shares: 15% withholding tax (with a double taxation agreement). For German investors it can be credited against German capital gains tax.
🇩🇪 The detailed explanation is only available in German so far – help translate it!

Beispiel USA: Du besitzt Apple-Aktien. Apple zahlt 1.000$ Dividende.

Ergebnis: Keine Doppelbesteuerung.

Quellensteuersätze (mit DBA):

• USA: 15% (anrechenbar)
• Schweiz: 15% (anrechenbar, Rest rückforderbar)
• Frankreich: 12,8%
• Niederlande: 15%

Did you know? That's why almost all large ETFs (iShares, Vanguard) are domiciled in Ireland – not because of the green meadows, but because of 0% withholding tax on fund income.
