Staking (crypto)

Digitalab 13 J.
Passive income with cryptocurrencies: you lock up coins as collateral and receive a 2–12% annual return. In Germany taxable as other income (§22 Income Tax Act) – exemption limit: €256/year.

• Lock-up: Coins teils wochenlang gesperrt

Did you know? A case is pending before the Cologne Finance Court to clarify whether staking income should be classified as capital income (25% flat tax) instead of other income (up to 45%). The ruling could significantly reduce the tax burden for stakers.
