Tariffs (customs duties)

Internationalab 9 J.
Duties on imported goods. They make imports more expensive and protect domestic producers. Since 2018, US tariffs (Trump) have shaped the world economy – with consequences for German exports.
🇩🇪 The detailed explanation is only available in German so far – help translate it!

• Textilien: 8–12%
• Lebensmittel: stark variierend (Zucker: 40%!)

Did you know? Before World War II, tariffs were many states' main source of revenue. The USA financed itself almost entirely through tariffs for over 100 years – there was no permanent federal income tax until 1913.
