Subscription trap

Konsumab 9 J.
Forgotten or hidden subscriptions that cost money every month: streaming, apps, gym, magazines. On average, Germans spend €50–100/month on subscriptions.

Subscription traps arise when you take out subscriptions and forget to cancel them – or when free trial periods automatically turn into paid subscriptions.

Typical subscription traps:

• Streaming: Netflix + Spotify + Disney+ + YouTube Premium = €50/month
• Apps: cloud storage, fitness apps, news portals
• Gym: €30–60/month, often with a 12-month commitment
• Phone extras: insurance, "premium support"
• Magazines and newsletters with a premium section

Remedy: once a quarter, go through all your bank statements and assess every subscription: "Do I actively use it? Would I sign up again today?" If not → cancel immediately.

Did you know? According to one study, Germans spend on average 40% more on subscriptions than they think. The most common reason: forgotten free trials that automatically became paid.
