Electric car incentives

Alltagab 13 J.
State support for electric cars in Germany: the environmental bonus ended in 2024, but tax advantages remain: 0.25% company-car taxation and 10 years' exemption from vehicle tax.

What electric car benefits are still available in Germany in 2026:

Purchase bonus (environmental bonus): discontinued since December 2023. No more direct purchase bonus from the state.

Tax benefits that remain:

✅ Company car: only 0.25% instead of 1% taxation (for a list price under €70,000). Huge savings!
✅ Vehicle tax: 10-year exemption for pure electric cars (until 2030)
✅ Charging at your employer: tax-free (the employer may provide electricity free of charge)
✅ GHG quota: electric car owners can sell their CO2 savings (€50–100/year)

Total cost electric car vs. combustion engine: despite the higher purchase price, an electric car is often cheaper over 5 years: electricity is cheaper than petrol, less maintenance (no oil changes, less brake wear), tax exemption.

Did you know? In Norway more than 80% of all new cars are electric – thanks to massive tax advantages. In Germany the share is around 15%.
