Embedded insurance

TrendsErwachsene
Insurance built into the buying process: travel insurance when booking a flight, phone protection when buying a smartphone, rental car insurance at the rental desk. Convenient but often expensive.

Embedded insurance means that insurance is seamlessly integrated into the purchase process of other products.

Examples you know:

• Flight booking: "Add travel cancellation insurance? Only €9.99!"
• Electronics store: "Extended warranty for €49.99?"
• Rental car: "Comprehensive cover without excess for €15/day?"
• E-scooter app: "Accident insurance for this ride: €0.49"

The problem:

❌ Often much more expensive than insurance taken out separately
❌ The insurance terms are hardly ever read (you just click "Yes")
❌ Many benefits are already covered by existing insurance (credit card, liability)

Tip: before you buy embedded insurance, check whether your existing insurance already covers it. Travel health insurance for €10 per YEAR is almost always better than the one for €9.99 per TRIP.

Did you know? Embedded insurance is expected to grow to more than $700 billion by 2030. Example: when you buy a phone, breakage insurance is offered automatically.
