Financial education in the family
Financial education doesn't have to be dry – here's how to make it natural:
In everyday life (every day):
• When shopping: "This bread costs €1.89 and the other one €3.49. Which one shall we take and why?"
• At the petrol station: "50 litres × €1.85 = how much?"
• At a restaurant: "How much should we tip?"
• When shopping online: "Do we really need this? What does it cost elsewhere?"
Structured (once a month):
• Family finance evening: 30 minutes, discuss the budget, check savings goals
• SaveFoxy learning module: work through a module together (20 minutes)
• Feed the savings fish: 2 minutes a day – children love the routine
Playful (when the opportunity arises):
• Play shop, hold a flea market
• Monopoly, Cashflow – board games with a money theme
• Make a savings goal poster and hang it up
• "What would you do with €100?" – a conversation starter
The most important thing: be a role model. Children learn more from observation than from lectures. If you handle money consciously yourself, your child will pick it up quite naturally.
