Selling at a flea market

Kinderab 5 J.
Children sell old toys at a flea market: they learn to set prices, negotiate and judge the value of things. The perfect first business experience!

How to organise a children's flea market:

Preparation:

• Pick out toys and books that are no longer needed
• Agree on fair prices together (not too high, not too low)
• Write price tags
• Prepare change (coins!)

On flea market day:

• The child sells – parents stay in the background
• Practise haggling: "What will you offer me for it?"
• Work out the change
• At the end: count how much you've earned

What they learn: children discover that their old things are valuable to other children. They learn negotiation, communication and how to handle real money.

Did you know? Children's flea markets are the best “money school”: kids learn the value of things, negotiating and giving change. Educators recommend taking part for the first time from age 6–7.
