Joint account

Bankingab 9 J.
An account for two people – typically couples. Both can deposit, withdraw and transfer money. Ideal for shared expenses like rent and groceries.

A joint account (Gemeinschaftskonto, also partner account) is a current account with two equal holders. Both can use the account independently of each other.

Typical 3-account model for couples:

• Account 1: your personal account (salary, personal expenses)
• Account 2: your partner's personal account
• Account 3: joint account (rent, groceries, insurance, holidays)

How it works: both transfer a fixed amount into the joint account every month. All shared costs are paid from there. Whatever is left over: save or invest it together.

Variants: "and account" (both must agree) or "or account" (each can act alone – more common).

Did you know? Around 60% of German couples have a joint account. With an “either-or” account, EACH partner can access the entire balance alone – even after a separation.
