Leasing

Konsumab 13 J.
Long-term renting instead of buying: you pay monthly instalments to use a car, device or property. At the end, nothing belongs to you. Usually more expensive than buying.

With leasing, you rent a product for a fixed term and pay monthly instalments. At the end of the term you give it back – you own nothing.

Most common example: car leasing.

• Monthly instalment: €200–500 (depending on the car)
• Term: 24–48 months
• Mileage limit: 10,000–20,000 km/year
• At the end: return the car (or buy it at the residual value)

Financially almost always worse than buying: over the term you often pay 70–80% of the new car's value, but own nothing at the end. A well-maintained used car is almost always the better choice financially.

Did you know? In Germany more than 40% of all new cars are leased – for company cars, more than 70%. Lease payments are fully deductible as a business expense for entrepreneurs.
