Fundamental analysis

BörseErwachsene
Valuing shares based on company data: revenue, profit, debt, P/E ratio. “Is this company worth its current price?” The opposite of chart analysis.

Fundamental analysis values a share on the basis of the company's economic data – not chart patterns or price trends.

Important ratios:

• P/E ratio: price-earnings ratio (expensive or cheap?)
• Revenue growth: is the company growing?
• Profit margin: how profitable is it?
• Debt: how much debt does it have?
• Return on equity: how efficiently does it use its capital?
• Dividend yield: how much does it pay out?

For private investors: fundamental analysis is complex and time-consuming. If you don't want to read annual reports all the time, you're better off with a broadly diversified ETF – professionals do the work there.

Did you know? Warren Buffett, the most successful investor of all time, relies exclusively on fundamental analysis. He reads hundreds of annual reports every year – and ignores charts completely.
