Green transformation
The green transformation is the biggest economic overhaul since industrialisation: away from fossil fuels, towards climate neutrality.
Germany's targets:
• 2030: 65% fewer greenhouse gases (vs. 1990)
• 2035: 100% of electricity from renewable energy
• 2045: climate neutrality
The building sites:
• Energy: solar, wind, hydrogen instead of coal, gas, oil
• Mobility: electric cars, public transport, bikes instead of combustion engines
• Buildings: heat pumps, insulation instead of oil heating (Building Energy Act!)
• Industry: green steel, green hydrogen, circular economy
What it costs: an estimated 5–6 trillion euros by 2045 (across Germany). Sounds like a lot, but: doing nothing costs MORE in the long run (climate damage, adaptation costs).
Opportunities for investors:
• Sustainable ETFs (ESG, SRI) invest in the winners of the transformation
• Companies in renewable energy, e-mobility, hydrogen
• Fossil fuel companies will lose value in the long run ("stranded assets")
