Home office allowance
Steuernab 9 J.
In Germany, deduct €6 from your taxes per day worked from home (max. 210 days = €1,260/year). Applies even without a dedicated study. Lowers your tax bill.
The Homeoffice-Pauschale (home office allowance) lets you deduct €6 per home office day as income-related expenses in your German tax return – max. 210 days = €1,260/year.
Requirements:
✅ You worked mainly from home on that day
✅ No separate study needed (the kitchen table is enough)
✅ Applies to employees AND the self-employed
Sample calculation: 150 home office days × €6 = €900 in income-related expenses. At a 30% tax rate you save €270 in taxes.
Important: the home office allowance is part of the income-related expenses lump sum (€1,230). It only brings a tax advantage if your total income-related expenses exceed €1,230.
Did you know? Since 2023, up to 210 home office days at €6 each can be deducted – a maximum of €1,260 a year. Around 8 million Germans regularly work from home.
