Share price (quote)
Investierenab 9 J.
The current price of a security on the stock exchange. Prices change constantly depending on supply and demand.
The price (Kurs) is the current price at which a security is traded on the stock exchange. It's determined by supply and demand: when many buyers want in, the price rises. When many want to sell, it falls.
Example: SAP shares are priced at €210. Tomorrow they could be at €215 or €205 – depending on what news about SAP is published and the general mood on the market.
For long-term investors, short-term price fluctuations matter less. What counts is the long-term direction – and for broadly diversified equity ETFs, it has historically always been upwards.
Did you know? In 1980 a share was held for 10 years on average; today it's only 7.2 months – and in high-frequency trading often just fractions of a second.
