The US technology exchange: Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Meta, NVIDIA – all are traded on the Nasdaq. The Nasdaq-100 index covers the 100 largest non-financial companies.

The Nasdaq (National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations) is the second-largest stock exchange in the world and home to the largest technology companies.

Top companies on the Nasdaq: Apple, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Amazon, Alphabet (Google), Meta, Tesla, Netflix, AMD, Intel.

The Nasdaq-100: the best-known Nasdaq index comprises the 100 largest non-financial companies. ETFs on the Nasdaq-100 are popular, but much more tech-heavy than the S&P 500 or MSCI World.

Historical return: the Nasdaq-100 has clearly outperformed the S&P 500 over the last 20 years – but with bigger swings. In the dotcom bubble of 2000, it lost 78%.

Did you know? In 1971 the Nasdaq was the world's first fully electronic stock exchange – there was no physical trading floor. All transactions were digital from the start.
