Black Friday

Konsumab 5 J.
The biggest shopping day of the year (the last Friday in November). Real bargains? Sometimes. But beware: many “discounts” are based on inflated original prices.

Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) is the highest-grossing shopping day of the year – and a feast for impulse purchases.

How to tell real bargains from fake ones:

❌ Fake discounts: "only €99 instead of €199" – but the product NEVER cost €199 (anchoring heuristic!)
❌ Shelf-warmers: old models that would be reduced anyway
❌ Cheap products: goods made specially for Black Friday (lower quality)

How to do it right:

✅ Make a wish list BEFORE Black Friday – only buy what's already on it
✅ Check the price history: idealo.de or camelcamelcamel.com show how the price has developed
✅ Set a budget and stick to it
✅ Basket test: wait 1 day. Do you still want it tomorrow? Then buy it

Real Black Friday bargains: electronics (Samsung, Apple often 10–20% cheaper), streaming subscriptions (Spotify, Disney+), software licences.

Did you know? The name “Black Friday” does NOT come from shops being “in the black” that day. It goes back to the Philadelphia police in the 1960s, who called the day that because of the chaotic crowds.
