Up to €292 per child per month – on top of child benefit! For families in Germany who work but earn little. Many don't know they are entitled.

The Kinderzuschlag (KiZ, child supplement) is a state benefit in Germany for families on low incomes – on top of child benefit.

Who gets it?

• Parents who work but don't earn enough to fully cover the family's needs
• Income must be at least €900 gross (couples) or €600 (single parents)
• Income must NOT be so high that there is no need

How much?

• Up to €292 per child per month (2026, adjusted annually)
• Plus child benefit (€259) = up to €551 per child per month

Additional benefits when receiving KiZ:

✅ Exemption from daycare fees
✅ Free school meals
✅ Free school outings and class trips
✅ Subsidies for tutoring

How to apply: at the Familienkasse of the Employment Agency. Online or by post. Tip: familienkasse.de has a KiZ guide that checks in 2 minutes whether you are entitled.

Did you know? An estimated 800,000 families are entitled to the child supplement but don't receive it – because they don't know it exists. That's more than €2 billion left unclaimed every year.
