Mini-jobs and taxes
How a minijob is taxed in Germany:
As your only job:
• Up to €603/month: tax-free and exempt from social security contributions
• The employer pays flat-rate contributions (approx. 30%), not you
• Pension insurance only: 3.6% of pay (exemption possible)
Alongside a main job:
• ONE minijob is tax-free (in addition to your main job)
• From the SECOND minijob: full taxes and social security contributions on the second
• Tip: if you have 2 side jobs, make one a minijob and the other short-term employment
Alongside studies: a minijob and a working-student job are possible at the same time – both tax-free/discounted as long as the limits are respected.
