Property (real estate)
ImmobilienErwachsene
A plot of land or building – flat, house, commercial space. In Germany about 42% of households own their home.
Immobilie (real estate) means immovable property: land, houses, flats, commercial premises. The German term comes from the Latin "immobilis" (immovable).
Property is considered a solid investment: over the last 20 years, prices in Germany have risen by an average of 5–7% per year. However, there are regional differences – much more in conurbations than in the countryside.
Buying vs. renting: whether buying or renting is cheaper depends on many factors: purchase price, interest rates, rent level, value development and how long you plan to live there.
Did you know? Germany's home ownership rate (42%) is one of the lowest in Europe. In Romania 96% own their home, in Spain 76%.
